FAQs
General Landscaping Questions, Answered
The things people most often ask us before booking general landscaping work. If your question isn’t here, give Rob a call — the advice is free.
What does general landscaping include?
We only do soft landscaping. That means levelling areas, building raised sleeper beds filled with soil and compost, laying gravel, fitting path edging and turfing. It is often done alongside new fencing or decking, so the whole garden comes together as one job instead of several.
How long do timber sleeper beds and walls last?
Pressure-treated softwood sleepers typically last 10 to 15 years in contact with soil. Hardwood sleepers such as oak cost more but last considerably longer. Good drainage behind a retaining wall helps whichever you choose, as sleepers that stay wet all year wear out faster.
Should landscaping be done before or after new fencing and decking?
Fencing, decking and groundwork should come first, with new turf and planting last, so a finished lawn or border is not trampled while the heavier work is going on. Because we do fencing, decking and landscaping, we can plan the order for you and take care of it all as one project.
